
Pt. Vinayak Hegde
Pt. Vinayak Hegde began his journey in Hindustani Classical Music at a very young age, carrying forward a rich family legacy. He received his initial training in vocal, tabla, and harmonium from his father, Late Govind Hegde Kalbhag, and under the guidance of the family guru, Pt. S.M. Bhat Kattige. With constant encouragement and support from his siblings, he continued to refine his skills through dedicated practice.
Over the years, he has mastered both Gayaki and Tantrakari styles of music. Currently, he is advancing his training in Khayal Gayaki, Thumri, Bhajan, and Ghazals under the mentorship of Toronto-based Agra Gharana artist Pt. Narendra Datar. He is also deeply inspired and guided by his elder brothers, Pt. Parameshwar Hegde of Kirana Gharana and Pt. Gopalakrishna Hegde.
Pt. Vinayak Hegde has performed widely across North America and India, with notable concerts in the GTA, Montreal, New Jersey, Buffalo, Chicago, and Pittsburgh, along with prestigious cultural conventions. His musical journey also includes creative explorations such as instrumental and vocal jugalbandhi performances.
A respected figure in the Indo-Canadian community, he has made significant contributions through teaching Hindustani classical music, serving as a panel judge in competitions, and organizing successful musical events. His dedication and passion continue to inspire many in the community.
Currently, Pt. Vinayak Hegde serves as the Mahaguru and Prime Judge of the Kannada Idol Contest of North America – “The Voice of Namma Toronto.” He is also the Brand Ambassador of “The Voice of Namma Toronto,” playing a pivotal role in nurturing talent and elevating the platform to greater heights.
