Praveen D. Rao is a distinguished classical musician with an international reputation, bringing over three decades of excellence as a Music Director, Composer, Percussionist, Stage Director, Arranger, and Multi-Instrumentalist. His artistic journey reflects a rare blend of traditional depth and contemporary innovation, making him one of the most versatile creative forces in Indian performing arts.
He has composed extensively for physical theatre, dance productions, television soaps, films, albums, and advertisements. His performances and collaborations have taken him across India, Great Britain, South Korea, Australia, Indonesia, the Middle East, Canada, and the USA.
Praveen has actively contributed to the arts community through prestigious roles, including serving as Vice President of Karnataka Artistes’ Association. He has been a member of the Advisory Board of Abhinava Dance Academy and served on the Board of Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy (2017–2019).
He is also the Founder President of Prakruthi, an NGO dedicated to promoting social awareness through performing arts.

Praveen D. Rao’s outstanding contribution to music, theatre, and performing arts has been recognized with numerous prestigious honors over the years.
He is a three-time recipient of the Aryabhatta Award (1998, 2000, 2010) and has received the Swaramandara Award by Hombale (1998, 2000) and the G. V. Atri Award by Upasana (2000). He was honored with the Silicon Jaycees Award in 2003 and received the E TV Best Music Composer Award for Guptagaamini in 2004.
His excellence as a composer has been further acknowledged with the Colors Kannada Best Music Composer Awards for Chitte Hejje (2014) and Love Lavike (2016). He has been conferred with several distinguished titles including Kalavatamsa (2010), Sangeetha Ratnakara (2019), Natya Sangeetha Saraswathi (2019), Shree Kala Jyothi (2021), and Kala Chakravarthi (2022).
In 2022, he was honored with the prestigious Karnataka Kalashri State Award by the Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy. Most recently, he received the Sambhrama Puraskar Award from Sangeetha Sambhrama in 2023.
