As a composer, Praveen has developed a distinctive style in creative music, blending tradition with innovation. Over the last two decades, he has composed scores for leading theatre productions, Indian ballet, films, and television. As a music arranger, he is widely recognized for his creative fusion of Hindustani and Carnatic classical traditions with Western musical techniques. He has arranged background scores for films under acclaimed music directors such as L. Vaidyanathan, C. Ashwath, and Lalgudi Jayaraman.
His work for National Award-winning films including Stumble (English), Singaravva (Kannada), Sringaram (Tamil), and Namak Ki Kankari directed by M. S. Sathyu has been highly appreciated by critics. Many of his television compositions have become iconic, including Godhuli, Tulasi, Guptagaamini, Beladingalagi Baa, Laali, Lakumi, Lakshmi Baaramma, and the immensely popular Magalu Janaki.
Deeply involved in the physical theatre movement, Praveen has worked as a musician, composer, actor, and stage director, directing several acclaimed stage plays. He has also acted in television serials such as Manvantara, Mukta, Asare, Tulasi, Munjaavu, Yashodhe, Amma, and Avalu, earning appreciation from both the press and audiences. He has composed music for more than 200 full-length dance and theatre productions for leading institutions including Abhinava Dance Company, Natya Stem Dance Company, and Nritarutya Dance Company. Notably, he composed for Rama Katha Vismaya, a live musical ballet choreographed by Nirupama and Rajendra of Abhinava Dance Company, and has been composing music for the Karnataka Tableaux presented at India’s Republic Day Parade for the past nine years.
